School District Saves $54,000 in 1st Year
of Software Deployment

Prior to the summer of 2009, Charlotte County Public Schools (CCPS), in Port Charlotte Florida "didn't have a real good sense of their day-to-day transportation operations once the buses left the compound," according to Richard Duckworth, Transportation Director of the school district. They would receive phone calls about drivers speeding, missing stops and not arriving on time.

To solve the problem, the school district purchased "passive" GPS units and mechanical drive machines. "These units would run for 1-2 days and then you'd have to recharge them. They would record and store data and then you would have to retrieve it and interpret it. It wasn't interactive or real-time. It was very labor intensive." According to Mr. Duckworth.

They needed a better solution. There was a 15-20 minute difference between actual driving time vs. reported driving time. This alone saved us $50,000 in one year. We also saved $4,000 in fuel costs by reducing unnecessary idling for a combined savings of $54,000 in one year. And this year, I've already seen a 2000 gallon reduction in fuel in one month compared to the same timeframe last year that's directly attributed to reduced idle time and speed."
